The SET R2 is a 35mm SLR camera that was produced by the Japanese manufacturer Kowa. Founded in 1894, Kowa originally began as a textile manufacturer.  By 1945, they diversified their business and began to produce optics for binoculars, spotting scopes and projection lenses.  Kowa then began to manufacture cameras from 1954 to 1978.  Kowa produced their first camera in 1954, which was the Kalloflex 6x6 TLR.  They then went on to make a series of 35mm cameras with leaf shutters.  By 1960, they created a series of amateur 35mm SLR cameras with leaf shutters.

The Kowa SET R2 was released in 1970, and it was the last of the Kowa SLRs in production to use a leaf shutter.  The camera features a "behind the lens" leaf shutter arrangement and interchangeable lenses.  The SET R2 above comes with a standard Kowa 50mm f2.8 lens.  The camera also has combined TTL full aperture metering, and a complicated shutter design.  The SET R2 instruction manual has a message to users that says we hope "this camera will become a companion of yours and afford you great enjoyment for years to come." The SET R2 can definitely bring enjoyment to the vintage camera lover or collector!
